GMOA holds talks with Joint Opposition

The main trade union of doctors in Sri Lanka, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), has held a discussion with representatives of the “Joint Opposition,” which consists of dissident UPFA parliamentarians.
The meeting was held as a step towards briefing political parties on the present situation with regard to the private medical college in Malabe (SAITM), the spokesperson of the GMOA Dr Samantha Ananda said.
Several MPs representing the Joint Opposition including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had participated in the meeting.
The GMOA had staged a four-hour token strike yesterday (3) at government hospitals across the country over the arrest of university students protesting against SAITM.
