
An Indian national has been arrested on suspicion of taking photographs opposite Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister, which is located within a high-security zone in Colombo.
The Police Spokesman’s Office said that the suspect was taken into custody by Kollupitiya Police this afternoon and that he is being further interrogated under detention.
The 36-year-old man, who is from Tamil Nadu, had been staying in the Wellawatta area after arriving in the country, police said.
There was tight security this morning around the area where the 69th Independence day celebrations were held just a short distance away from where the Indian was arrested.
Both President Maithripala Sirisena, PM Wickremesinghe were attending the celebrations along with the military top brass.
