Navy arrests 31 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

The Naval personnel had carried out an arrest of 31 local fishermen who had engaged in illegal fishing activities in the sea area of Silawathurai.
The fishermen had engaged in illegal fishing practices using unlawful fishing gear and without a valid licence.
During the arrest, seven dinghies, seven unauthorized fishing nets (Surukku), three pairs of diving fins and 12 diving masks were taken into naval custody.
The apprehended persons and belongings were handed over to the Mannar Fisheries Inspector for further investigations.
