It has been reported that complaints have been made by the general public as retailers have consistently ignored the control price that has been set over all varieties of rice.
When questioned, retailers stated that the whole sale price at which the produce was bought, was considerably higher than the control price set, making it difficult to sell their product at the required control price.
However it has been reported that, supermarkets such as Lanka Sathosa have been selling the produce at the set control price.
A special committee meeting for the discussion of the issues pertaining to the irregularities in the retail price of rice was held today (13) at the Presidential Secretariat Office.
