
Two police teams have commenced investigations into the shooting of the Land Reform Commission’s director in charge of Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts, Nesathurai Wimalaraj, in Kaluwanchikudy last night.
Police Spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said that two teams of officers from the Kaluwanchikudy Police Station have been assigned with carrying out investigations into the incident.
Mr Wimalaraj was injured and admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital with serious injuries following the shooting at his residence by two armed men who reportedly arrived on a motorcycle.
A spokesman for the hospital said that the gunshot victim is no longer in serious condition.
