Two prison officers who were critically wounded in the Monday morning’s shooting incident in Kalutara have been transferred to the Colombo National hospital.
According to hospital sources, three persons have sustained life-threatening injuries following the shooting.
The police since this morning have launched investigations involving five policemen teams to identify the suspects, the officials said.
Meanwhile, Prisons Reforms, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Minister D.M. Swaminathan on Monday said the police should take responsibility with respect of the incident.
He stated that the police have ‘neglected’ to provide enough security to the prison bus which was carrying inmates including an underworld figure to Courts.
“A request made by the prison authorities to provide security to this prison bus was ignored by the police,” he alleged.
