
Former Sri Lankan diplomat Dr Dayan Jayatilleka today charged that Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera that has declared to the entire world that Sri Lanka is a ‘failed state’.
The former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the UN in Geneva was referring to the foreign minister’s recent speech at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, during which he had said that the country’s attempts at nation building after gaining self-determination from British rule has failed.
“In my lifetime, Sri Lanka has never taken such a humiliating stance anywhere in the world,” Dr Jayatilleka said, while speaking during the annual convention of ‘Viyathmaga - Professionals for Better Future’ in Colombo on Saturday (4).
Meanwhile, former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa while speaking at the event stressed that he would not intend to take a post in a future government.
Rajapaksa also pointed out the state officials should be given the freedom to take decisions.
