The Sri Lankan Medical Council (SLMC) stated that it will file a petition with regard to the private medical school in Malabe, on the 10th of March.
Registrar of the SLMC, Dr Terrence De Silva stated that the petition will be filed challenging the decision of the Court of Appeal on the SAITM issue, based on the legal advice obtained received the council.
With regard to a petition filed by the student of the private medical college, the Court of Appeal on January 31 ruled that the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) is legally eligible to issue medical degrees to the students.
The court also directed the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to give provisional registration to medical students passing out from SAITM.
Meanwhile a parliamentary debate will take place on March 9 to discuss the prevailing situation concerning the functioning of SAITM.
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that it will meet the committee appointed by the President of the issue, for discussions tomorrow (8).
