Maankulam Police Sub-Inspector arrested

A Sub-Inspector (SI) attached to the Maankulam Police Station has been arrested for allegedly releasing a stock of illegally felled timber seized by police, without authorization.
The police officer had handed over the stock of timber, which was stored at the police station, to a civilian who has also been arrested along with the timber.
Police said that the arrests were made following investigations carried out by a team of officers led by Vavuniya DIG based on the instructions of IGP Pujitha Jayasundara.
The arrested suspects are to be produced at the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court today (18) while strict disciplinary action is to be taken against the Maankulam OIC, police said.
