In light of the festive season, the Finance Ministry has arranged to implement a programme to provide a hamper including 10 essential food items at a concessional rate.
Finance Minister Mr. Ravi Karunanayake stated that this offer would be available at Lanka Sathosa supermarkets from the 10 (today) to the 18 of this month.
The hamper includes the food items; dhal, potatoes, large onions, rice, sprats, sugar, canned fish, chilli flakes, chick peas and milk powder.
Mr. Karunanayake also stated that the hamper worth around Rs.1500 would be available at a price of Rs.975.
He further added that there would be no shortage or price inflation of goods during the festive season.
The Finance Minister stated this upon addressing the media after an inspection tour of supermarkets in Colombo, where he looked into retail prices of goods for the New Year season.
