
In light of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Fisheries Corporation has taken steps to set up 20 new fish stalls, the Ministry of Fisheries said.
According to reports, the programme to expand the network of fish stalls owned by the Fisheries Corporation was implemented under the advisement of the Minister of Fisheries, Mahinda Amareewara.
The aim of this programme is to enable the public to purchase fresh fish for the New Year season.
The Ministry of Fisheries stated that the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation which had borne a loss in the past was being improved as a state agency, owing to the steps taken by the new management.
The Ministry further added that the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation was aiming to earn a profit of Rs. 70 million within this year under the new management.
