Sex predator Bhaskar Muniyappa boasted that he was an “international, famous astrologer (and) powerful spiritualist who could erase black magic and fix love problems.”
Muniyappa coaxed his victims to strip so that he could rub lime slices on their bodies and molest them during these sessions, Crown attorney Paul Zambonini said while reading an agreed statement of facts.
Muniyappa, 32, from Sri Lanka, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of sexual assault involving two women in 2014. He’ll be sentenced Wednesday.
One victim was distraught over a recent separation. She paid the spiritualist $750 to help her reconcile with her estranged husband.
She turned to Muniyappa after reading his ad in which he promised to solve “love problems,” said Zambonini.
Muniyappa promised the heart-broken victim that she’d get “marital protection for 21 years” for the fee, said Zambonini.
The healer molested her for roughly 20 minutes in mid-August and she became depressed. But, she received a phone call from her estranged spouse and consequently she kept visiting Muniyappa, said Zambonini.
After her final session in August 2014, he abused her again, before asking the woman to drink two litres of water, court heard.
The victim urinated in a bottle in front of Muniyappa and saw a flame “came out of the bottle,” said Zambonini.
“He told her that the flame was proof of the black magic and spell that had been placed on her,” said Zambonini.
On her July 28, 2014 visit, she complied with his request to remove her shirt and he rubbed her with the limes and fondled her breasts, said Zambonini.
In the case of the second victim, Muniyappa was alone with the woman and touched her breasts on Sept. 11, 2014, court heard.
Both victims’ identities are covered by a publication ban.
Spiritualist Bhaskar Muniyappa can now see his own future — he’s returning to his native Sri Lanka as a deportee.
Muniyappa, who admitted he molested two women in 2014, will be sentenced on Wednesday and his days as a free man in Canada are over.
As soon as Muniyappa finishes his sentence, he’ll be deported to his homeland where he’ll join his wife, court heard.
Muniyappa, a visitor to Canada, was released in September 2014 when he was charged after trying to grope his first victim’s breasts.
He was only two days away from his visitors’ permit expiry in November 2014 when he was charged for sexually assaulting his second victim.
Despite the two charges, he was granted bail. He remained free until Feb. 1, 2017 when his bail was revoked for violating the condition of notifying cops of a change of address. He has been in jail since.
