Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the Government will stand up against the people who are trying to hinder the development of Sri Lanka and will continue to help the country prosper.

The Prime Minister made the observation while addressing the crowd during the UNP May Day rally held at the Campbell grounds today. 

Wickremesinghe stated that the win current president Maithripala Sirisena sustained is a great achievement considering the fact that two leading political parties were given the opportunity to represent themselves in the decision making of the country. 

He further added that they, as party would need a time period of approximately one year to attain economic stability, which according to Wickremesinghe was heading towards a major collapse under the Rajapaksa regime. 

Wickremesinghe stated that the trade concession the country received via GSP+ will create 6600 additional imports to Europe. 

Ranil said that the Rajapaksa regime, has cost the country Rs. 96000 million, and a total of $15000 million must be paid by 2020.

Wickremesinghe expressed his interests in making Sri Lanka a central point for sea and air travel, the setting up of the Volkswagen factory in Kuliyapitiya, and the setting up of many hotels around the country, to help boost the tourist industry in the country. 

He added that discussions have been held with Japan, for the construction of second harbor in the North.
