
Mosquito larvae have been discovered in 298 schools of the Western Province, Ministry of Health stated.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne had instructed the National Dengue Prevention Unit to inspect how well schools had cleaned their premises to control the Dengue epidemic and to submit a report based on their findings.
Accordingly, Health officials, Police officers and Security Force officials conducted school inspections on the 28 and 29 of April, as reported by the Ministry of Health.
Reports revealed that out of the 10,089 schools subjected to inspection, 298 schools were found to contain mosquito larvae breeding grounds.
The Ministry stated that steps had been taken to clean 2091 schools, issue messages for 630 schools, file cases against 106 more schools.
The Minister of Health has given orders to grant the schools with larvae breeding grounds a period of one month to clean the premises failing which, cases would be filed against the principals concerned.
