Van robbery at Weliweriya

A van worth about Rs. 5.1 million has been stolen near the Weliweriya public cemetery.
The van was travelling from Kaduwela to Belummahara yesterday (03) night when a group of people arrived in a motor vehicle and blocked the road to stop the van.
The thieves reportedly tied up the driver’s hands and made off with the van.
Police Media Spokesperson’s Office stated that the driver had been abandoned at Sapugaskanda.
The driver, a 76-year-old resident of Siyane, Gampaha, has been admitted to the Gampola Hospital for treatment.
No information about the thieves has been uncovered yet.
The Weliweriya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
