The investigation into the case of missing child in Gampola took a new turn Thursday after police found that it was child’s relative who allegedly abducted the boy before fleeing the area.
However, initial reports suggested that the child and the relative were abducted while they were on their way home near the Gampola bus stand Wednesday morning.
The police have launched a manhunt to locate the suspect, an official said.
A probe to locate them was launched after the mother of the child lodged a complaint with the Gampola police last afternoon.
According to the mother, her child had left with the cousin to deliver a meal prepared for her husband on the day of the abduction. However, the cousin in question had not delivered the meal and vanished without a trace later that day.
A team led by the Gampola police is investigating the matter.
