
Locomotive drivers and guards employed on contract basis have been instructed to report to duty immediately, Sri Lanka Railways said.
Railway Operating Superintendent, Wijaya Samarasinghe stated that all contract locomotive drivers and guards who fail to report to work today (05) would be considered as having vacated their post.
The Operating Engineers’ Union’s Secretary Indika Dodangoda said that most trains would not be functioning after 8.00 am today (05).
Out of the estimated 300 trains that should be functioning today, only about 30 of the essential trains would be available, he added.
He added that the transport of fuel however would be functioning normally.
