
The World Food Programme (WPF) has agreed to provide relief for residents of the four districts that are being severely affected by the ongoing drought, Minister of Fisheries, Mahinda Amaraweera states.
The Minister stated that 6250 families in the districts of Moneragala, Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Mannar had been adversely affected by the drought.
Minister Amaraweera said that the WPF had taken steps to provide USD 2 million as relief for the victims.
He further stated that the poverty-stricken families affected by the drought in the four most affected districts would be given a bursary of Rs. 10,000 each for 4 consecutive months.
