As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi departs today to attend the International Vesak Day celebrations in Sri Lanka as the chief guest, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has requested him to talk on fisherman issue during his visit.
“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Sri Lanka. Our leader Mr. Stalin has requested, rather demanded, the Prime Minister to use this visit and talk about the issues which are plaguing both the countries,” DMK leader Sarvanan told ANI.
“Tamil Nadu fishermen have been repeatedly shot at, killed, and boats being seized. Our leaders want permanent solution on this issue and hence, we request the Prime Minister to end this problem,” he said.
This will be Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Sri Lanka. He had toured Sri Lanka in March 2015.
Prime Minister’s two-day Sri Lanka visit starts from today, confirmed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday.
