Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says that a certain group within the United National Party (UNP) has expressed their displeasure with regard to giving the former Army Chief a top position in the party.
Responding to a question from a journalist following an event in Gampaha, the Minister of Regional Development stated that a while back Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had proposed to appoint him as a deputy leader of the UNP in addition to several other positions.
Fonseka said that given a post or not, everyone in the UNP knows who he is and therefore he will not go asking for positions.
However, the minister said that he believes certain members within the party have expressed their displeasure on the decision to give him these posts.
