
The aim of the power shift attempts in the North-Central Provincial Council is to establish a situation where power can be shared between the United People’s Freedom Alliance and the United National Party, Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara says.
The Minister stated that in such a situation, another ministerial seat would have to be allocated for the UNP.
The persisting issue regarding power in the North-Central Provincial Council arose as a result of the unilateral decisions taken by a group of UPFA members.
Opposition leader of the North-Central Provincial Council, Anil Ratnayake opposed the move to shift the power balance.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of the Western Province, Isura Devapriya stated that the Provincial Council powers vested in the SLFP would not be affected.
