The government has made a policy-based decision to ensure the standards of medical education, Deputy Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith P. Perera said.
The Deputy Minister stated this at a press conference held at the Department of Government Information today (15).
He stated that the drafting of the law to set up an authority for the monitoring of private higher education institutions was complete and that accordingly, independent bodies would soon begin monitoring the standards of these higher education institutions.
Perera added that the University of London established a higher education institution in Sri Lanka over 100 years ago. He said that the government was prepared to engage in further discussions to solve all issues pertaining to the monitoring of standards of private higher education institutions.
Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Development, Eran Wickramarathne stated that doctors should be committed towards the protection of patients’ lives, in the same way the security forces are committed towards the protection of our land, the law and peace.
