Workers of the state-run petroleum company Wednesday warned of trade actions for the second time over three demands including to protest the proposed deal with India to jointly operate a strategic oil facility in Trincomalee.
The unions warned that trade action which ended previously following a discussion with the Prime Minister would be launched again, this time without a prior notice.
Petroleum Joint Union Alliance Convenor D.J. Rajakaruna said it has come to notice that according to the terms of the pact Sri Lanka to ink with India, the government has ‘totally’ ignored the promises made to them.
Rajakaruna also vowed trade action within next few weeks if authorities do not intend to reconsider and address their issues.
However, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe during a recent event said Sri Lanka would only lease out oil tanks to India under the proposed deal.
