
A flight attendant has been arrested by customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake for allegedly attempting to smuggle a large quantity of gold jewelry into the country.
Sri Lanka Customs officers at the airport discovered gold jewelry weighing 6.5kg and worth around Rs 35 million following an inspection carried out, based on information received.
The arrested suspect, a 27-year-old male from Colombo, had arrived in the country onboard a flight from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
The suspect was arrested at Peliyagoda while traveling to Colombo, according to the customs media spokesman.
