
A Chinese national has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake while attempting to leave the country with a large sum of undeclared foreign currency.
The customs spokesman Parakrama Basnayake said that the suspect was preparing to board a flight to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia when he was detained and searched.
Customs officers discovered US$ 24,500 worth over Rs 3.7 million in his possession.
Inquiries had revealed that the Chinese man had arrived in the country just two days back and that he is employed as the manager of a factory in Riyadh.
