The conformational change of the Dengue virus and the prevailing weather conditions have resulted in a rise in the number of Dengue patients reported, the health sector says.
They stated that about 50,000 patients have been reported to be infected with Dengue in 2017 so far, and added that small children were also among the victims.
The health sector has urged the citizens to take necessary steps to prevent the spread of Dengue.
Dr. Deepal Perera stated that a programme should also be implemented to immunize young children against Dengue.
The Dengue mosquito population has exponentially increased owing to the lack of proper waste disposal methods in the country.
Dr. Prashila Samarasinghe advises citizens to seek medical treatment without delay if fever persists for several days.
