Flood conditions still persist, with the water levels rising further in some areas, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says.

Assistant Director of the Matara Disaster Management Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Priyankara Udayasiriwardena stated that water levels of the areas in Matara had risen.

Meanwhile, the district Disaster Management Unit stated that the flood condition of Galle had remained unchanged for the most part.

However, he also stated that the water levels were rising in Mapalagama, and added that the residents of said area were currently being evacuated.

The Kalutara Disaster Management Unit announced that water levels had also risen in Bulathsinhala, Palinda-Nuwara, and added that the Nagoda road crossing Palathota had been submerged.

The Kalutara Unit further stated that the Kalutara estuary opening was in the process of expanded in order to facilitate water drainage.

Minor floods have reportedly affected the areas of Kaduwela, Wellampitiya and Kolonnawa.

The Disaster Management Unit of Colombo stated that the areas of Kaduwela, Ranaala, Nawagamuwa, Bopitiya, Bomiriya, Mahadeniya, Galigamuwa and Hokanda-South had been submerged due to the inclement weather.

584 individuals of 104 families residing in the aforementioned areas have been affected, the Colombo Unit says.

Meanwhile, District Secretary Malani Lokuhothagama announced that the water levels of Ratnapura were showing signs of decreasing.
