Rainfall has reduced but monsoonal showers and windy condition will continue over the south-western part of the island, the Department of Meteorology said, in the latest weather update.
Within the past 21 hours fairly heavy showers have been reported from the Sabaragamuwa province.
The Rathnapura meteorological station has also recorded fairly heavy rainfallm measuring up to 68.2 mm.
The Meteorological Department stated that showers or thundershowers were likely to occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces.
Weather-related data indicates that showers or thundershowers may also occur in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the afternoon today (27).
Heavy rainfall (about 100 mm) is also to be expected in some places.
Meanwhile, the Met. Dept. announced that fairly strong winds at times (up to 50-60kmph) were to be expected over the island. They added that said winds were likely to become stronger during showers.
Accordingly, the Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
The Department of Meteorology also stated that showers or thundershowers could occur in the sea area off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will reportedly be south-westerly in direction, with a speed of about 40 kmph.
Sea areas around the island can be very rough at times as the wind speed has the potential to increase up to 60-70 kmph, the Met. Dept. warns.
Naval and fishing communities are therefore requested to be vigilant.
