When it comes to disaster management, there are no operations like in Sri Lanka even in developed countries such as the US, the Health Minister said Tuesday.
He told reporters in Colombo that “Our operations are only criticized in Sri Lanka. Globally, everywhere they admire our operations and how we treat people with respect to the disaster management.”
Rajitha also clarified that the Prime Minister had to go abroad on medical reasons. “The PM had to postpone his medical examinations for 18-months. He continuously will be in touch. Every day, every six hours the authorities will apprise him of the situation,” the Minister pointed out.
“He will provide necessary instructions,” Rajitha added.
“In situations like this, we are preparing ourselves as a small island and we are doing our best,” he said.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Director G.L.S. Senadeera dismissed allegation raised by the Joint Opposition that officials do not intend to take decisions in fear of the Financial Crime Investigation division (FCID).
“The National Council for Disaster Management chaired by the President was convened today to discuss the situation,” he said.
MP Udaya Gammanpila earlier stated that FCID intervention has made the distribution of aid ineffective.
