
The government today announced that a maximum compensation of Rs 2.5 million will be provided for the houses destroyed by the recent adverse weather conditions.
State Minister of Public Enterprise Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena stated that relevant officials have already commenced evaluation at places where flood waters have receded and that steps will be taken to provide financial assistance to affected places of businesses through banks.
Speaking at a press conference today, he said that the government has spent Rs 126 million so far as special funds for the disaster situation and that despite this certain politicians are attempting to use the prevailing situation for their own advantage.
