
The Traffic OIC of the Borella Police Station has been remanded till Wednesday (07) based on charges of an alleged theft.
The Traffic OIC was placed in remand custody following his surrender to the courts on charges of alleged theft of a stock of lightning conductors and gold jewelry worth Rs 550,000, Ada Derana reporter said.
It is reported that the theft had occurred while the items, belonging to Western Provincial Council member Royce Fernando, were being transported to Colombo by two of his employees in order to be sold.
Investigations had uncovered that the items were stolen by eight individuals including three police officers under the guise of searching the vehicle transporting them.
The Colombo South law enforcement unit which is investigating the incident had previously arrested four suspects in connection with the theft while they were remanded till June 16.
The arrested Traffic OIC, an Inspector of Police, is to be produced in an identification parade on June 07.
