I am exceedingly grateful to the Disaster Management team and our tri-forces for carrying out rescue and relief operations during the natural disaster situation, the Prime Minister said.
He also showed gratitude for the police, government officials, civil and corporate organizations, and the people of Sri Lanka for coming together wholeheartedly to help out their fellow-citizens in their time of need.
"Firstly, I wish to convey my sincerest thanks to all of you for the numerous messages that I have received during the last few days, ever since I had to leave the country for some long overdue medical attention. I am deeply touched by your concern. However, I regret that I was unable to continuously be on ground as I have in the past. Prior to leaving however, I was able to put in place the overall disaster management mechanisms in order to deal with the emergency situation, and I have been receiving the relevant reports on a six hourly basis," he said in a Facebook post.
The Prime Minister added that he will today meet with the United Nations Secretary General where we will discuss climate change at ‘The Ocean Conference’ organized by the United Nations.
