In line with World Environment Day, a Shramadana campaign has been implemented in the Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat division of the Kalutara District.
The programme will be carried out throughout the day today (05), and will be led by President Maithripala Sirisena, with the participation of the Sri Lanka Army and Chinese relief teams.
Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority, Lal Dharmasiri stated that officials attached to all state institutions under the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment would also be participating in this programme.
Meanwhile, Environment Lawyer Jagath Gunawardana stated that human activities were to be blamed for the recent crisis, and added that plans must be made with consideration for the environment, to ensure a sustainable future for our country.
