The inability of the government to handle the recent natural disaster situation erupted since the government itself is in crisis, the National Freedom Front said Monday.
While speaking to reporters in Colombo, its Deputy Leader MP Weerakumara Dissanayake also blamed the government for not being able to provide ‘practical solutions’ for national issues.
Dissanayake pointed out the political mechanism which he cites as the most appropriate way to communicate in a natural disaster situation had lost its strength with the absence of local government members.
“Their absence has hindered communication between the public and the government officials,” Dissanayake added.
While referring to an allegation made by a Minister that the flood situation in the country got worse owing to the Southern Expressway project, Dissanayake said “Then he has the choice to pick not to work on any development projects in fear of facing natural disasters.” He also pointed out the way how the government responded to the flood situation has proven that it lacks the capacity to come up with timely and practical solutions.
