The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Tuesday slammed the Megapolis and Western Development Minister following his remarks that flood situation in the Southern Province got worse owing to the E01 Expressway project.
PHU leader MP Udaya Gammanpila made the observation while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo.
Gammanpila went on to say remarks of Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka are illogical since there was a massive flood in the Southern Province in 2003 as well, before the construction of the E01 Expressway.
He also pointed out that Ratnapura, Ayagama and Deniyaya where a construction of an expressway project was not carried out were also affected by severe flood.
Gammanpila added that the Minister’s remarks have a boomerang effect since it was Patali Ranawaka who was the Environment Minister at the time of the Southern Expressway project.
“All three former Environment Ministers of the previous Government are now members of the new Government,” he said.
Gammanpila also stressed if the environment has been polluted due to the project, the Environment Ministers who should take responsibility for that are now with the current Government. “They point finger at us, but eventually they point finger at themselves,” he added.
