
The case concerning the gang rape and subsequent murder of Shivaloganathan Vidya in Punkuduthivu, Kayts of Jaffna was called in before a trial at bar at the Jaffna High Court today (12).
Vavuniya High Court Judge, Balendran Sashi Mahendran, Jaffna High Court Judge, M. Ilancheliyan, and Trincomalee High Cour t Judge, Annalingam Premshankar constituted the trial at bar.
Although the defendants appeared at court today (12), the hearing had to be postponed owing to the absence of the defendants’ counsels.
Accordingly, the judges have postponed the hearing till June 28, 29 and 30.
9 suspects have been identified in connection with the incident, and reports indicate that 41 indictments have been filed against the suspects.
Meanwhile, the court announced that the 37 witnesses must be present on all 6 scheduled court dates.
When the case was called in today (12), the Solicitor-General had reportedly submitted a report of the statements made by the witnesses to the judges.
On May 13, 2015, Vidya Shivaloganathan was raped and murdered along the 9th lane in Punkuduthivu, Jaffna, on her way home from school.
