Defense Secretary, Karunasena Hettiarachchie stated that although the tri defense force in the country is willing to help the Police at any given time, no situation requiring the defense forces has arisen yet.
The sentiments were brought out during a press conference held ahead of the ‘Sanhidiyavai Sangarama Shakthiyayi” program which will be held tomorrow (14), a cultural night organized as a tribute to war veterans.
He further added that the people of the country are already reaping in the benefits of this newfound sense of freedom, including the media who have used this opportunity to their advantage.
Hettiarachchie stated that although many newspaper headlines give a warped idea of the story behind the headline, the reality of the situation is far from it.
Moreover, he added that although minority extremist groups in the country have caused stirs at times, a majority of the population has managed to live in peace, and that the media tends to nitpick on the minor negativities while blowing the situation out of proportion.
