
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva stated that regulatory measures are required to reduce the number of crimes that are currently occurring with the use of vehicles.
Stating that many complaints regarding crimes committed with the help of vehicles, he added that the measures that should be taken as preventive action, cannot be executed by himself alone.
The sentiments were brought out during a press conference held in Battaramulla regarding the strengthening of the transport sector in the country.
He added that if CCTV cameras were to be installed at every bus station in the country, the process of identifying and arresting people involved in crimes, ransom taking in particular could be carried out quickly.
De Silva stated that the issuing of bus permits is now issued through the proper tender, where as in the past no such mechanism was in place, hence investigations on the matter have begun.
Furthermore, 12 other talking point affecting the transport sector were discussed during the meeting as well.
