Jewellery theft: three more cops arrested

Three more police constables have been arrested based on a jewellery theft, for which a police IP, SI and four others were earlier arrested, police said.
The suspects have been charged with stealing a stock of lightning conductors and gold jewelry worth Rs 550,000.
It is reported that the theft had occurred while the items, belonging to Western Provincial Council member Royce Fernando, were being transported to Colombo by two of his employees in order to be sold. Investigations had uncovered that the items were stolen by eight individuals including three police officers under the guise of searching the vehicle transporting them.
