The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Nanu Oya Police Station has been transferred to the Nuwara Eliya Police Headquarters, with immediate effect.
The police officer has been transferred pending the investigation into the tense situation which had prevailed at the Nanu Oya town this morning (15), police spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said.
The situation was the result of a tipper truck hitting and killing a school girl who was crossing the road in Nanu Oya today. An angry mob of residents had also torched the tipper truck involved in the accident and blocked the Nuwara Eliya-Hatton road in protest.
However, the situation has been brought under control now while the driver of the tipper truck has been arrested and remanded, police said.
