Politburo Member of the ‘Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’ (JVP), K. D. Lalkantha states that certain political groups who lost their power were attempting to use racism to regain power.

Lalkantha stated this upon attending a function in Anuradhapura.

Accordingly, he urged the public to not be misled by racism.

Meanwhile, the recent acts of violence targeting Muslim religious places, and shops, businesses and houses belonging to Muslims have caught the attention of the cabinet of ministers.

Consequently, the cabinet released a special announcement condemning all acts of violence and hate carried out by certain individuals with the intention of spreading racism.

This announcement states that instructions have been given to relevant officials to take legal action against those committing acts of violence and hate targeting any and all religious and ethnic groups.

The cabinet also expressed its gratitude towards civil organizations and religious leaders for reacting calmly and peacefully in light of such events.

Adding on, the cabinet assured with confidence that the country will under no circumstance retreat back to its violent past.
