The National Dengue Control Unit stated that over 20% of school children have been affected by the Dengue virus.
Consultant Physician Dr. Prashila Samaraweera stated that 25% of all deaths due to dengue have been school children.
She added that the programs that were held during the recent past has helped to reduce the number of vectors around areas with a high density of school children.
Dr. Samaraweera stated that the Unit will be working in partnership with the Ministry of Education to help eradicate Dengue from the country.
However many parties have come forward stating that the irrational strategy used in the fogging process has been causing problems in the fight against Dengue.
The Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) stated that the improper fogging methods have added on to the spread of dengue in the country.
Furthermore, environmentalist Sajeeva Chamikara stated that the improper fogging method has been affecting the balance found within ecosystems as well.
