One person was killed another injured after an illegal gem mine collapsed in Madara, Niwithigala on Sunday, police said.
The mine was secretly built inside the house of one of the victims, police added.
The remains of the deceased have been taken to the Niwithigala hospital for a post-mortem. The injured person is also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The Niwithigala police are conducting further investigations.
