President Maithripala Sirisena is due to meet with the Maha Sangha in Kandy today (06).
The meeting was organized for the purpose of addressing issues associated with Buddhism and Buddhist places of worship, as well as issues related to the new Constitution.
Sources state that the meeting will take place at the President’s official residence in the afternoon, with the participation of Mahanayake Theros and the Maha Sangha.
A few days ago, Mahanayake Theros and Anunayake Theros collectively agreed that a new Constitution was not necessary, and subsequently decided to submit a series of proposals regarding prevalent social and cultural issues to the President.
The decision was made during a congregation at the Asgiri Maha Vihara.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena states that those who plan on coming into power by means of unethical political plots will not succeed.
The President stated that those who committed grave acts of corruption, abuse and crime during their tenure were attempting to rise again.
