The representatives of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) have sought the attention of the Maha Nayaka Theros of the three sects to reconsider their policy to oppose the process of drafting a new Constitution.
TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran said though the influential Buddhist community has demanded that the plan be abandoned, the foundation has already been laid to draft the new Constitution.
Sumanthiran went on to say the people of the North and East may lose their faith if this process comes to an abrupt end which would have been an opportunity to bring in legislation that would address the issues of all communities.
Sumanthiran added the previous Constitutions and amendments did not represent the opinion of the minorities.
He thereby requested the Maha Nayaka Theros to reconsider their stance in this regard.
