The lawyers at the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court have decided to boycott court proceedings on Thursday (06), Ada Derana reporter said.
President of the Nuwara Eliya Bar Association, Attorney-at-law T. Rajadurai stated that the lawyers were refraining from appearing in cases to oppose the decision to appoint a junior attorney as an Acting Magistrate.
He explained that the registrar had appointed a junior attorney as the Acting Magistrate when there were senior attorneys available, in order to temporarily fill the Magistrate’s seat.
The Numwara Eliya Magistrate had reportedly left the Court temporarily for professional reasons.
