A group of suspects including an army soldier have been arrested after they allegedly abducted a young woman in the Halmillewa area in Kekirawa.
Police said that acting immediately on a complaint received that a woman was abducted by a group of men in a van, a team of officers gave chase and found the 23-year-old woman who had been abandoned in Horawila, Habarana.
The police officers continued to give chase to the van and succeeded in apprehending the 7 suspects while a plastic pistol, similar to an actual pistol, was found in their possession.
The suspects had revealed that the abduction was carried out over a romantic affair with the victim.
The main suspect, a soldier attached to the army medical corps, is to be produced at the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court.
