SIU Director joins investigation team at Point Pedro

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit has been dispatched to Point Pedro in Jaffna in order to assess the ongoing investigation of the shooting which took place on Sunday (09).

 

Police Headquarters reported that the Director had been dispatched under orders of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

 

A situation of unrest arose in Point Pedro yesterday (10), following the incident where Police opened fire at a lorry carrying sand which failed to heed orders to stop.

 

A 25-year-old was killed as a result of the shooting.

 

Two Police Officers were arrested and subsequently remanded in connection with the incident.
