The funeral proceedings of the 24-year-old who was shot dead in Manalkadu, Point Pedro, was concluded at the Nelliady public cemetery in the evening yesterday (11).

Our Ada Derana reporter stated that the funeral proceedings had been conducted peacefully. Security had been tightened in Nelliady and Manalkadu by means of Police and Police Special Task Force (STF) reinforcements.

Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of Jaffna, Dr. S. Mayuradhan confirmed upon conducting the post-mortem examination that the victim had in fact died from a gunshot wound (GSW) to the chest.

The post-mortem examination of the deceased 24-year-old Yogarasa Dinesh was conducted by the JMO at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, Police state that the Police Special Investigation Unit’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mevan Silva is due to arrive in Jaffna today (11), in order to conduct further investigations into the incident.

The dispatch was made under orders of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

Previously, a team of personnel was dispatched to Point Pedro to conduct investigations under the leadership of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Special Investigation Unit.

On July 09, Police opened fire at a lorry carrying sand when it failed to heed orders to stop, resulting in the death of Yogarasa Dinesh.

The incident took place at Manalkadu, Point Pedro of Jaffna.
