
The Hardy Advanced Technological Institute in Ampara will be closed until further notice, due to a tense situation after a clash broke out between the students.
Ada Derana reporter stated that the situation had broken out between a group of students living on and off hostel premises, over second year students ragging a group of first year students.
Multiple students of the institute had been hospitalized due to the incident, while many were arrested by the police, officials had to call in police personnel in order to control the situation.
Ada Derana reporter added that although the police had provided security since the day of the incident, the students of the institute had raided the office the Director, while behaving in an unruly manner.
Director of the Institute, Mr A. Baroon stated that the decision to close the institute was made with the best interest of the safety of the students and condition of public property in mind.
Accordingly, the students have been informed to leave their hostels at 3.00pm today (13), while the date they will re-open the institute is to be announced later.
